Sustainability

At The Residence Maldives, sustainability is woven into the way we operate, host, and connect. Set within a fragile island ecosystem and surrounded by vibrant marine life and island communities with deep cultural heritage, we recognise our responsibility to protect the environment while contributing positively to the people and places that make this destination so extraordinary.

Our Approach to Sustainability
Our sustainability efforts are guided by the following:

Environment
We are committed to responsible resort operations that minimise our environmental footprint across our island settings. This includes energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction initiatives, as well as the gradual elimination of single-use plastics through in-house solutions and responsible procurement. From back-of-house operations to guest experiences, we continuously seek ways to live and operate in harmony with our natural environment—both land and sea.

Locally and Regionally Sourced
Wherever possible, we prioritise local and regional sourcing to reduce transport emissions while supporting Maldivian fishermen, farmers, and trusted suppliers across neighbouring communities. This approach helps strengthen local livelihoods and allows us to showcase the authentic flavours, materials, and traditions of the Maldives throughout our culinary and guest experiences.

People
Sustainability is as much about people as it is about the planet. We prioritise local employment, skills development, and meaningful community engagement, working closely with island communities, local councils, and partners to create long-term social value beyond the resort. Through training, knowledge sharing, and collaboration, we aim to support resilient communities across the Maldives.
