July 2016 - The Residence Mauritius has launched new Ayurvedic therapies to its treatment menu at The Sanctuary Spa. Based on the ancient Ayurvedic techniques of healing and medicine, the treatments leave guests feeling renewed and invigorated. The Ayurvedic therapies are a relaxing way for guests to find holistic wellness steeped in Indian culture during their stay at The Residence.

Ayurvedic therapies originated in India over 5000 years ago aiming to achieve inner balance within the body based on the elements of the earth. These treatments are known for their balancing and detoxifying effects on the body and are used daily in India.

The new treatments available at The Residence Mauritius, Abhyanga, Shirodhara and Shiro-Abhyanga, will include herbal oils as an essential element to the Ayurvedic experience. This ancient technique works on the three characteristics of a person, or doshas. According to Ayurveda, an imbalance in the doshas can cause disease. Ayurveda seeks to achieve balance within the body and mind through healing techniques passed down through generations in India.

Abhyanga Marma Body Massage
Benefits: Decreases the effects of aging and increase circulation
The Abhyanga treatment lasts for 60 minutes and includes an aromatic combination of oils prepared with herbs, warmed and blended to the guest’s specific Dosha type. The warm, Ayurvedic oils serve to alleviate mental and physical stress on the body. Oil is applied to detox the body of stress, physically, mentally and emotionally. This treatment is absolutely recommended for enhancing complexion, relieving fatigue and stiffness of muscles.

Shirodhara Indian Head Massage
Benefits: Improves mental clarity and comprehension
The Shirodhara treatment lasts for 60 minutes and includes an Indian head massage. Soothing herbal oil flows in a continuous stream to the center of the forehead, or third eye. Shirodhara works on a cellular level and continues to detoxify and replenish skin cells hours after a massage. This treatment is recommended for a variety of conditions, including eye diseases, sinusitis, greying of hair, memory loss and insomnia.

Shiro- Abhyanga Body Massage and Indian Head Massage
Benefits: Deeper sleep, hair growth, mental clarity
The Shiro-Abhyanga treatment is 120 minutes. Warm oils are gently drizzled onto the center of the forehead for over 45 minutes. The gentle but firm hand massage movements of Abhyanga are given to the entire head, neck and shoulders. A selection of marma points are manipulated to direct the flow of energy in a correct and balanced way that enables the release of pain and tension. This delightful sensation melts away all chatter and mental activity leaving the mind calmed, cooled and refreshed. The massage loosens tight muscles and encourages that the blood to circulate providing the head with oxygen-rich blood, removing harmful toxins. This treatment is recommended for many stress related conditions and it will leave the mind feeling refreshed and awake.

Embrace the wonderful sensation of renewal and rejuvenation at The Sanctuary, a temple of zen-like relaxation dedicated to the well-being of the body and the mind. Newly refurbished, the spa features ten indoor treatment rooms and an eleventh, hidden in the tropical gardens overlooking the lagoon and offers classic massages and custom made programmes inspired by Asian technique.

Guest may choose between any of the Ayurvedic treatments, the Abhyanga (MUR 3,400), Shirodhara (MUR 4,200), and the Shiro-Abhyanga package (MUR 7,000). All rates are tax inclusive.
